The story building in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is what
makes the film interesting to watch.
Prasad (played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, who became my favourite after this
film) walks off from a drama saying that he will catch cold siting in the cold
night. The next scene, in the morning, he goes to a medical shop to buy medicines
where he see Sreeja (played by Nimisha) buying a pregnancy test kit. This makes
Prasad gossip about her, which in turn makes Sreeja to talk with Prasad.
This story building is supported by the cinematographer.
Most scenes first introduce an atmosphere and then the actual scene relating to
the story. Look at the scene where Sreeja’s chain is swallowed by Prasad (played
by Fahadh Fazil) in a bus and the passengers decide to take him to police
station. The next scene involves a person who fetches water as a punishment and
pleading to an officer to get rid of the punishment. This long single take
scene ends when the guy enters the
station and we see the people complaining about the theft.
Malayalam cinema is constantly producing good characters.
Even in this film, characters are unique and make the film interesting. Be it
Fahadh fazil’s character has ‘never let go until the last minute’ or the police
named Chandran (played by Alencier Ley Lopez) who tries to make money from
Prasad by claiming his higher official’s decisions as his own.
The non-linear narration, in first half, took me by surprise
as the edit was seamless. In fact, you would find there is a jump in story’s
timeline by a dialogue. There is a festival, a small fight in the festival, a
case about cell phone tower that revolve around the police station. It creates
a wholesome experience of the film.
Verdict: Great story building with natural performances make this a wonderful experience.
