Bharat (Mahesh Babu), a five degree holder
comes to India from London after hearing the news of his father’s demise.
Raghava (Sarath Kumar) is Bharat’s father and the Chief Minister of Andhra
Pradesh. Varadaraj (Prakash Raj), a close friend of Raghava wants Bharat to be
the next Chief Minister. He becomes the Chief Minister. In the first scene of
the film, Bharat answering to the question why he has five degrees that he does
not know many things and want to learn.
That’s some solid writing by Koratala Siva.
He takes up the CM post because he does not know anything about it, which he
honestly admits at first day of his charge. Another well written and edited
scene is when the young Bharat eats ice cream breaking his promise to his
mother. The following advice on promise becomes Bharat’s life principle. The
scene one expects someone saying Bharat has not eaten since then, but we see
sun light enter his bedroom. Her mother relates sun rise to promise in the
before scene.
The dialogues are well written for this
political drama. Every dialogue that targets audience are said looking into the
camera. One of my favourite line is when a head constable tells “He is not a
political leader, he is a leader”. I
really loved the way how director used a word, which Bharat first find it
difficult to pronounce, to bring goose bumps later.
You have the typical slow motion edits
whenever he walks, gets off a helicopter, etc. Though these are moments where
fans go frenzy, I loved his press meet speech. His fingers snapping after
telling everything he has during his tenure was a delight to watch. The fight
sequences are well choreographed, especially the fight inside the theatre.
Thanks to some refreshing fights, or else
this film would have been fall into commercial trap among the interesting political
drama. The songs are a forceful addition to the screenplay. We get song for
hero’s introduction, actress’ admiration towards hero, when they confess their
love and other formulaic places. I really loved the “Bharat ane nenu” song used
as background when he takes his chair at his office and “This is me” line tune
is played when he adjusts his nameplate.
Verdict: Good writing and direction with
the commercial formulaic screenplay.
