A film on bank robbery next a film with a dog, then a film
with zombies and now a space film. Shakti Soundar Rajan is trying out different
packages for a similar commercial plot. If you had checked out the trailer, you
would know the single line plot of it. For those who dint, check out the
trailer. This simple plot is saved by screenplay and the visual effects.
The screenplay is engaging enough and do not expect out of
the box twists. I was not bored all through the film (I never minded the
logical flaws as I considered this as a commercial film). Shakti’s previous
film, Miruthan, was a disaster to me. The melody song when the characters are
surrounded by hundreds of zombies was disgusting. I am thankful that this film
does not have so bad commercial elements. Shakti sticks to the narration
without any unwanted scenes.
The visual effects are done by Ajax media and it’s amazing.
The film does not give you a space experience like 2001 space odyssey or
Gravity. This lack of experience is to be blamed on the plot and not on the
visual effects team. The limited space experience we get is wonderful and kudos
to the visual effects team.
The mission is to be done by Vasu( played by Jeyam Ravi) who
is a trained magician and escape artist. He is assisted by Venkat(Ramesh Tilak)
and Appu( Arjunan) and two Indian defence persons, Swathi( Nivetha Pethuraj)
and Raghuram( Vincent Asokan). You get slow motion walk of these five with
background music and comedy sequences, which is well into the narration and
creates some laughter.
The father-son emotion plays a major crux in the film, yet
it not well established. The only reason making the father son bond believable
is the cast of Aarav Ravi( Jeyam Ravi’s son), using the leverage of real life
bond. I enjoyed the small scene where Vasu cries seeing television which plays Theri
movie scene (Vijay taking his daughter after Samantha’s death). In this film,
we do not see Vasu’s wife and this small scene conveyed the meaning.
Verdict: The plot let down the commendable visual effects .
